Kids (Ages 6-9)
Calling all young cyclists! Join BikeSmart Kids Courses, designed for riders ages 6-9 and embark on a journey to bike safely and confidently with friends and family, to school, and around your neighbourhood!
Life on two wheels begins early, and our mission is to equip your kids with essential safe bike handling skills from the get-go. The sooner they learn, the faster their confidence and ability on the bike soar! The focus of this course is to nurture safe cycling habits, setting them up for success when they’re ready to ride with traffic as they grow older.
The 3-hour program is filled with games and skill-related activities, all designed to teach essential bike handling and safety skills. Together, we’ll master helmet fit, basic traffic rules, bike and equipment checks, proper braking, hand signals, shoulder checks, and bike handling with obstacles.
Participating families should also send their kids with the following:
Bicycle in good working order
Approved helmet that fits
Plenty of snacks and water for break time
Registration is currently open for Kids Courses offered through local rec centres, please see available offerings below.
“My confidence on the bike has grown so much since taking the course; I am now riding on roadside bike lanes (instead of trails only) and growing my routes to include more areas as a result. I am able to look out for potential safety hazards and plan enjoyable routes with what I learned! Thank you to the helpful instructors – this course is an invaluable resource for new bikers.”
“This is an excellent course for beginning to intermediate-level riders. More experienced riders might also learn a thing or two! Great mix of classroom and on-bike practice.”
“I took this course as a refresher about traffic safety after a few years of not biking. It helped me build the confidence I need to start commuting by bike. The course was informative and fun! I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to feel more comfortable and safe biking in traffic!”
